Since this mixtape has been on constant repeat for the past weeks I should probably post it through for Friday Night Music Party.
You don’t know
what’s in store
But you know
what you’re here for
Order plane tickets
Cali is the mission
Visit every month
Like I’m split life living
Is this guy me?
So tell me you love me
Only for tonight
Only for tonight
Even though you don’t love me
Just tell me you love me
I’ll give you all you need
I’ll give you all of me
Even though you don’t love me
Slow burning. I’ll give you what I need indeed.
Friday Night Music Party! Is this the best Beach House album never made?
Taiwanese pop cover of Gary Jules’ and Michael Andrews’ cover of Tears for Fears’ Mad World. Can anyone tell me anything more about this song and artist in English? It doesn’t seem to be listed on the wikipedia. Google helpfully translates as “Asan - Crazy”, and recommends I search for “crazy asian” instead.
Edit: The name of Taiwanese singer 阿桑 is transliterated into English as Ah Sang, and sadly she passed away from breast cancer in 2009. Thanks for the help GL!
Wade Davis gave a lecture at the Chan Centre back in 2006 that I wish I could have seen. No matter, you can listen to it here, or watch a video.
Wade’s travelled the globe for years and has brought back a collection of loosely related stories centred around the theme of understanding and sharing the wisdom contained by a wide variety of rapidly disappearing indigenous cultures. I highly recommend listening to this lecture if you are at all interested in languages, different cultures, and diverse experiences. For those with a tie to the Vancouver area, he talks briefly about changes occurring in Northern BC. After the time I spent in Greenland, I can appreciate the closing segment on the ingenuity of the Inuit people there. The lecture is 80 minutes long and worth trying to listen to in a single sitting.
Thanks much to AB for the heads up.
Summer disco! Thanks TR.
Speaking of flying… Thanks for the heads up JZ!
Bangin’! Thanks for the heads up, S!
Slow-burning shuffle from the new Zomby album, Dedication. Perfect accompaniment to the thunderstorms we’ve been having lately in Santa Fe. The track ends a little abruptly on its own without the following to mix into - grab the whole album for 35 minutes of awesome.
FNMP!
The Adventure Club remix makes this track. Grab yourself a free copy so it’s easier to play on repeat, or watch a hipsteriffic video with the original version of the song playing in the background.
Video’s got some moves, and the audio is stupid catchy with simple yet effective lyrics. Above & Beyond played the night I rolled into Columbus, kind of regret not going to see them now.
And when the big wheel starts to spin
You can never know the odds
If you don’t play you’ll never win
I’m sorry baby
You were the sun and moon to me
I’ll never get over you, you’ll never get over me
Those jerks disabled YouTube embedding though, so you’ll actually have to click through to watch the video. Stepping up to 720p improves the audio quality, but the video itself has been transcoded up from 480p so no win on that front.
I kind of feel like I’ve posted this already, but I can’t seem to find it with tumblr’s notoriously flaky search.
Anyway, the first three tracks off Walk the River are great; things fall apart quickly from there.
It’s an endless conversation
With an endless voice, over endless fascination
Over endless choice, and my heart’s going out of missions on imagined motorways
I never said I was right, I just hoped you thought it anyway
Pretty fantastic remix of Example’s Kickstarts from 2010. Watch the video for the super poppy original, or the video for this remix.
And the love kick starts again
Starts again
The Love kick starts again
Starts again
