Went for a wander through San Jose with Tamiko looking for things to photograph. We met a drunk named Wallhead under this overpass as I was shooting this. He smelled as volatile as a jet fuel spill. He was pretty amiable and wanted to have his picture taken, then he changed his mind and wandered off in a drunken stupor. As he was turning around to go, he looked square at Tamiko and told her she’d be pregnant within three years. Ha ha! Drunk fortune tellers are the best, especially since Tamiko had just finished telling me she was never going to have kids of her own.

Catching up on a couple of old images from before the adventure. When you view the south bay in satellite imagery, there are all sorts of pools of different colours. This here is a close up of the green pool.
Streaking, but not for long. Time to start smearing the earth instead.
K-5 and K-r users also gain access to the ‘Astrotracer’ feature that predicts the movement of celestial objects and uses the sensor shift mechanism to track this movement to give astrophotographs with single points, rather than star-trails.
For some reason I always mistype Alcatraz as Alcatrax. I’ve driven by quite a few correctional institutions in my travels around the country, this one has the best location of any I’ve seen yet. The rec yard is a beautiful spot, and probably as good as any to sit and ponder all the bad things you’ve ever done.
I think this is some sort of emergency phone, but the sparse design and jaunty font kind of make me want to just hang out here and chat like in those party line ads from the 80s.
The Wave Swinger premiered in Germany in 1972, designed by Zierer and built by Franz Schwarzkopf, brother of Anton Schwarzkopf. In 1974 the first portable unit debuted under the same partnership. Since then Zierer has built about 200 units. In German they are known as Wellenflug or Wellenflieger, literally “flying wave”.
