Geoff and I were looking for a beach to go to this afternoon, and while hunting around on Googlie Maps we found Rotonda. To give some sense of scale, each giant slice that makes up the pizza that is this bizarrely manufactured community is a golf course. If you zoom all the way in on satellite mode, you can see a round white building at the very centre of the development. I was hoping that this would be some community facility or at the very least a martian landing pad, but it turned out on closer inspection to be a fenced off part of a municipal works yard. Who plan a works yard as the centrepiece of such a fastidiously organized example of dredgery?
Or maybe it is a martian landing pad. Rotonda is a deed restricted community, which means they can require you to do all sorts of things as a prerequisite of living there, including not questioning the strange nocturnal comings and goings of blinky oblong spacecraft.
